Former BDO World Champion Andy Fordham has sadly passed away at the age of just 59.
The Viking was a popular figure with fans and his crowning moment came in 2004 when he was BDO World Champion, beating Mervyn King in the final.
In 2004, he faced Phil Taylor, the reigning PDC World Champion, in a match billed as ‘The Showdown’, but was forced to withdraw due to illness.
Fordham also won the 1999 Winmau World Master during an illustrious career.
Tributes poured in from the darts community following the sad news of his death.
Fellow former world champ Adrian Lewis tweeted: “Sad to hear the passing of a legend Andy Fordham our thoughts are with his family.”
Matthew Edgar wrote: “Sad to see the passing of a legend today. RIP Andy Fordham.”
Kevin Painter said: “Absolutely devasted to hear the news that Andy Fordham has passed away, a darting legend and one of the nicest guys on the planet, thoughts are with the family at this time.. RIP Andy.”
Glen Durrant posted a photo of himself with Fordham and wrote: “RIP Andy Fordham #Legend.”
